Enginuity provided structural engineering design and construction administration services in conjunction with Fink Roberts & Petrie for this new 6-level, post-tensioned parking facility which, when complete, will be the second largest in the state of Indiana. This much-needed facility will accommodate staff and visitors to the Wishard Replacement Hospital. Wishard’s mission is unique in Marion County in that it provides more care to the indigent than all other hospital systems in the county combined. Additionally, Wishard is one of Central Indiana principal teaching hospitals, partnering with more than 40 academic institutions and programs.
The Replacement Hospital Parking Garage consists of one below grade tier of slab-on-grade construction with 6 supported upper tiers for a total of 7 tiers to accommodate approximately 2,850 cars over 1 million square feet. Pedestrian access to and from the garage is provided through 3 stair and elevator towers. The towers have multiple roof levels and are steel-framed with a glass curtain wall, metal panels and architectural precast cladding.
The close proximity of other campus buildings in addition to the poor soils on site presented many challenges for the foundation design. The chosen system was reinforced concrete pile caps over auger cast piles. The perimeter retaining walls are over 20 feet in height in some locations.
